Civil Partnerships

The law now provides for civil partnerships offering same sex couples the same rights as married couples.

We are able to advise you as to the implications of entering into a civil partnership as well as providing you with assistance should your civil partnership breakdown.

To dissolve a civil partnership in England & Wales you must prove that it has irretrievably broken down. This can be done by establishing one of the following 4 facts:

  1. Your civil partner has behaved unreasonably and you cannot be expected to live with them.
  2. You have lived apart for a continuous period of 2 years and you both consent.
  3. Your civil partner has deserted you for 2 years or more.
  4. You have lived apart for 5 years or more and your civil partner's consent is not required.
